According to the
2001 census village had 1942 inhabitatnts - out of them 1217 Slovaks (62,7%),
711 Hungarians (36,6%), 7 Czechs, Moravians (0,4%) and 3 of them were
other nationality (0,05%). As it comes to religious makeup, 1876 were
Roman- Catholics (96,6%). Majority of the gainfully employed worked in
the area of industry, building and agriculture. Age ratio was quite balanced
but in last years there has been a new phenomenon in demographic tendency
which reflects in lower natality.
In these times there are 8 individual farmers
and 33 enterprenors. They work in trade and services. There are four groceries,
a greengrocer´s, a chemist´s, a shop for gardeners selling gardening equipment,
an ironmongery, a tavern, a bar, a habberdasher´s, a candy shop, a butcher´s,
a cobbler´s, an icecream and a mill.
We can also find here other services like tyre service, a car body repair man, automechanics,
carriers, repairmen of electric appliances e.c. Post office, pharmacy
and health centre are also parts of village services.
Village surroundings provide tourists great
opportunities for relaxation while hiking in mountainous landscapes, visiting
medieval castle ruins and fishing in two lakes. Mushroom pickers, hunters
and fishermen can also find here beautiful places to go in nearby forests.
Proof of many recreational opportunities
is a recreation centre with 180 private cottages and 25 cottages run by
different companies.
